WHY FISH?
How Fish Soho Got Its Name
Fish Soho began back in 1987, in the heart of London. The space? Well, it used to be a sex shop—but that was just the beginning of its transformation.
While renovating the space, the founder and his father, stripped off the old wallpaper and uncovered a wall of beautiful, original Art Deco tiles. As we worked, a woman walking past poked her head in and asked, “What are you up to in there, darling?”
they replied, “We are turning it into a barbershop.”
She smiled and said, “Oh really? I used to buy my fish there during the war.”
And just like that, the name stuck—Fish. It had history, charm, and a bit of cheek—everything we stand for.
So that’s how it started: one barber chair, a girl washing hair, him behind the scissors—and his dog. We’ve come a long way since then, but the spirit of Fish remains the same: bold, creative, and full of character.
